Katie Zhang

Katie Zhang is a white belt under Murilo Santana of Unity Jiu-Jitsu in New York City. She also trains at METHOD MMA in Shanghai during her time in China during summer breaks.

Katie has been dancing since she was 4 years old. It has helped her develop a skill for body movement, which has paved the way for her involvement in Jiu-Jitsu. She characterizes her approach to Jiu-Jitsu as a mix of fluidity, balance and dynamic. She advocates that beginners in the grappling sport should embrace a comprehensive approach, discarding self-imposed limitations related to their preferred style – do both Gi and No Gi, playing both top, guard game and wrestling.

She also underscores the efficacy of subtle and indirect yet impactful strategies for enhancing beginner’s jiu-jitsu game, for example, watching competitions, following jiu-jitsu related content on social media, listen to podcasts on learning how to learn jiu-jitsu or podcasts on health.

Started her training on May 2022, Katie has been consistent with her training and competitions.
