Dorothy Dao

Dorothy Dao is a Vietnamese-American Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Eduardo Fraga. She currently trains at Art of Jiu Jitsu in Costa Mesa, California and competes in the light-feather division.

Dorothy discovered jiu-jitsu in 2014 while completing her final year at the University of California, Berkeley. She initially trained at Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Berkeley and San Francisco before deciding in 2017 to pursue a globetrotting lifestyle centered around training and competing in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Over the following years Dorothy traveled extensively, visiting more than 100 BJJ academies around the world and living in six different countries. Some of these experiences were documented through her BJJASIA blog. After recovering from shoulder surgery, she returned to California in 2023 to train at Art of Jiu Jitsu under the Mendes brothers and renewed her focus on competing at the highest levels of the sport.
